Two Owl Brothers - a watercolor and ink illustration. This illustration is available now, and prints will be available soon!
I wanted to share a few photos of my newest story book, A Swim in the River. This book was commissioned by my aunt for her grandson - how fun! I enjoyed creating a picture book featuring life within a river, through watercolor illustrations.
Throughout this book, follow the story of a little fish and his daily journey through a stream. Meet all of the other creatures the fish encounters on his trip! This illustrated story book allows a young reader to engage with a narrative and come up with his or her own words while looking through the pages. View this book in my shop, and on Amazon!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by Strange Folk Festival at St. Louis Union Station this past weekend! It was nice seeing some fans, and meeting some new ones. The setting was quite unique; we enjoyed our booth spot by the pond.
Quite often I'm asked how I create my illustrations, so here's a little project you can try at home.
Begin with a blank sheet of watercolor paper. One of the most important things for me is the correct type of paper. A high quality watercolor paper is needed for the paint/water to cooperate. Here, I'm using Canson's cold press watercolor paper. For larger and more finished projects, it's wonderful to experiment with the other high-quality papers found at Blick and other art stores. I've torn off a little piece about 5.5 x 4" for this project.
I enjoyed working on this playing card project recently, and the cards have now been printed! I created the face card illustrations (King, Queen, Jack, Joker) for the Whose Deal playing card deck, and had the pleasure of working with graphic designer Elizabeth Salinas on this project. Find out more about these unique playing cards, or see more photos of the project in my portfolio.

Here are three new illustrations, mainly created for some Valentine cards. I can't believe I've never incorporated a pug into a painting before - they're so fun to illustrate! You can find these critters on some new cards on Zazzle (find the links below), and soon to be added to The Inky Octopus.
Pug Love: card, sticker, postcard.
Kitty Loaf: card, sticker, postcard.
Kitty & Yarn Heart: card, postcard.
I so am honored that my artwork was chosen for Missouri Alliance for Animal Legislation's 2014 holiday card! My winning illustration "Animal Holiday Party" was voted the official holiday card for the organization this year. The design was also featured in the 11/2/14 issue of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, in the Holiday Cards section. The card is available for purchase on MAAL's website, and all proceeds benefit the organization.
I'm an illustrator with an affinity for octopi. I love using watercolor and ink, and really enjoy working with the book form. View some of my story books, coloring books, and critter illustrations in my shop. Also, visit my Facebook page & Instagram feed.
